حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ الْعَوَّامِ، عَنِ الزِّبْرِقَانِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَعْقِلٍ : أَنَّهُ كَانَ عَلَى الْعُشُورِ ، فَكَانَ يَسْتَحْلِفُهُمْ، فَمَرَّ بِهِ أَبُو وَائِلٍ ، فَقَالَ: لِمَ تَسْتَحْلِفُ النَّاسَ عَلَى أَمْوَالِهِمْ تَرْمِي بِهِمْ فِي جَهَنَّمَ ؟ فَقَالَ: إِنِّي لَوْ لَمْ أَسْتَحْلِفْهُمْ لَمْ يُعْطُوا شَيْئًا ! قَالَ: إِنَّهُمْ أَنْ لَا يُعْطُوكَ، خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَنْ تَسْتَحْلِفَهُمْ
